About Me

Welcome to my personal blog about fighting mental illness and my struggles with every day life!

Hi! I’m Amanda Wilson. I’m 25 years old.

I’m living with PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) and GAD (General anxiety disorder). It’s been my battle for almost six years now.

I’m residing in the ever-beautiful Corner Brook, NL. And I get to wake up to this killer view every day! #grateful

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English and History and a Bachelor of Education (Primary/Elementary) from Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador.

First and foremost, I’m a writer and working on becoming a published author. I have a few manuscripts in the works. This is my ultimate dream! (Fingers crossed!)

I’m also an overqualified bartender or exceptional drink-maker (depends on your perspective!) I make one hell of a Boozy Cherry Cola though.

I am an ambassador for #SickNotWeak, the Michael Langsberg initiative, in which I volunteer and use social media to help break down barriers for people living with mental health issues!

I am a contributor writer for The Mighty and I write articles about living with PTSD and GAD. My debut article, “To the Cashier Who Realized I Was Having a Panic Attack” had over 500 shares in two days. I must admit, I’m pretty humbled by all the love! ❤

I am a slave to my cat Arty (alias Artemis Jean-Ralpheo Thomas) and he knows it!

Miesha, our English mastiff, joined our little family in January. She is 135lbs! and the biggest sook you’d ever meet! She’s officially bigger than me, but that just means there’s more to love.

This February, our little family, once again, got a little bit bigger. Daeny (aka Daenerys Leia  Thomas) is our third fur baby. (Arty is still trying to get use to the idea of having another sister!)

I’m an avid reader and I’m running out of places to stash all my recent book purchases.

I’ve also fallen back in love with my obsession for anime and started reading manga again/binge watching anime shows! My inner child will never die. *Sigh*

After six and a quarter years, I am finally so excited to announce that I am Zachary Thomas’ financee!!! And after all these years, he’s pretty awesome. (Not to mention he proposed on the island where Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was filmed!) This guy is the reason I finally found the strength to open up about my own personal struggles with PTSD. He supports me 100% and makes me laugh. And really, that’s all that matters.<3

I’m a big fan of UFC thanks to my boyfriend. Some of my favourite fighters include GSP, Uriah Faber, Myles Jury, Connor McGregor, Junior Dos Santos, Rhonda Rousey, and Miesha Tate.

My favourite TV shows are: Grey’s Anatomy, Big Bang Theory, and Sailor Moon.

My favourite Movies: Fly Away Home, Transformers. All of them!

My favourite Music: Linkin Park and Ed Sheeran (I like what I like).

I love being outdoors but also like the comfort of curling up on my couch and watching Netflix or reading a good book. But writing in nature is defiantly my favourite place to be!

I’m a Facebook junkie and Instagram fend. I’m recently onto a Twitter binge. Feel free to follow me at @awils91! (All my links are at the bottom of the page.)

I hope you find my blog enjoyable to read and informative about mental health. I am not a doctor, but I live with mental illness. I know a thing or two.

Keep stopping by for updates!

  1. Am enjoying your blog. It has taken tremendous courage to speak so candidly about your experiences and the effect it has had on your life and that of your family. I empathize with your night terrors. I experienced these for a few years as a adolescent and it took me a few years to piece my puzzle together. I was a married woman with my own children before I shared my story. Talking about it now comes so easily and that in itself has aided me in my own recovery. Take care Amanda and keep those blogs coming
